Our pups have gone to work for police departments, hunters, trackers, and have become alert dogs for medical issues. Many also have become great companions for just laying around the house and being sweet. We are currently working with Jody Seabolt with Walking Tall Bloodhounds. Bloodhounds have been part of the family for about 4 years starting with a beautiful puppy my daughters fell in love with the breed. The dogs we breed are selected from the best hunting pedigrees we can find which generally correlates to great health, great companionship, and easy train-ability. We try to maintain a 2 year plan with animal mental and physical health at the forefront of the plan. It was a gradual and well thought out development of the kennels. The kennels really bloomed into a nice quality business when Dr. Wylie realized he would retire and raise quality sporting dogs. According to our research, the Bloodhound breed has been around a long time and was created as the Bloodhound of today in Belgium. It was bred specifically to track humans, and is known around the world for its tracking capabilities. Bloodhounds are extremely nonviolent; the name is derived from the very high degree of breeding that went into their creation. Bloodhounds combine an amazing sense of smell with powerful instincts. The Bloodhound’s tracking abilities have been famously shown in many movies and by many law enforcement officials. A famous Bloodhound named Nick Carter tracked down over 650 criminals.
The Bloodhound has a shoulder height of 22.75-27.25 in and weighs 80-110 lbs. It is very large and strong, with a long muzzle, droopy ears, and loose hanging skin. The Bloodhound is ideal for tracking, combining large nasal chambers, long ears that block wind while the Bloodhound is sniffing the ground, and folded flesh which catches and holds stray scent particles.
As pack dogs, Bloodhounds enjoy company, including other dogs and kids. They are easygoing, but their nose can sometimes lead them into trouble. A strong leash and long walks in places where they can enjoy sniffing around are recommended. Bloodhounds are droolers, and obedience training these sensitive sleuths can be a challenge.
