Dr. Wylie has a doctorate in Science Education and spent 30 years in public education with 25+ of those teaching college. The kennels have developed from an amazing experience for his daughters to a top flight kennel with some of the best facilities, best treated pups and adults, best pedigrees, and most well socialized pups in the country. If you have the opportunity to visit you will almost certainly be very comfortable and very pleased.

About Canis Magnus Kennels
Our name embodies our philosophy and commitment to excellence. “Canis Magnus” translates from Latin to “Superior Dog,” capturing the essence of our aim to breed the finest dogs. We meticulously select and often retain the very best dogs in our breeding program, ensuring that they uphold the high standards we establish. Our family-operated kennel is focused on developing superior animals that excel in various high-level functions for their new owners.

More Than Just Companions
Our dogs are not only excellent companions and best friends but are also trained for a multitude of roles. Whether it’s lounging on the couch, playing fetch, or rigorous field training, our pups are versatile. They have found homes with falconers, professional athletes, Olympic athletes, casual walkers/hikers/joggers, military personnel, firefighters, police officers, bird hunters, lake enthusiasts, hikers, CEOs, retirees, small children, new families, and retired families.
You can find them everywhere—from local neighborhoods to the Mediterranean Sea. They are featured on magazine covers and prominent websites and in living rooms and the front seats of trucks. They greet customers at hardware stores, hotels, medical facilities, and kitchens. Our pups have traveled far and wide; there are some in Germany, over 10 in Canada, 6 in Alaska, Belgium, California, New York, Miami, and just about every state in the US.
We have had a fantastic demand for our kennels from people a mile away all the way to Europe and many places in between. We have contacts for resources that can help people get the pups anywhere in the world, although we mostly like to have people come by and meet in person when we can.

Our Journey and Growth
Our story began over 25 years ago with a rescue German Shorthaired Pointer named Buddy. After Buddy passed away from cancer, Dr. Wylie acquired a remarkable male named Tyson. Not long after, we were offered a female, Rascal, whose pedigree promised to produce exceptional hunting dogs. Our first litter was a success, drawing attention and inquiries about future litters. To meet the growing demand and maintain our high standards, we introduced Janie, who is known for her excellent hunting qualities, into our breeding program.
Recognizing the rising interest, Dr. Wylie decided to expand. In 2014, anticipating his retirement after 30 years of teaching public school science and physics, he designed a new, state-of-the-art facility. This facility was conceived with specific needs in mind—including Dr. Wylie’s late father-in-law, who loved interacting with the dogs during his battle with Leukemia. His design allowed safe interaction between dogs and people of all ages, ensuring a welcoming environment for everyone. A visit to our kennels will let you experience this exceptional setup firsthand.

Socialization and Health
Daily interaction with people and other dogs ensures that our puppies and adult dogs are well-socialized and adaptable. Our indoor whelping facility is spacious and insulated, with easy access to the outdoors, making it convenient for both the moms and visitors.

Continuous Improvement
We are committed to ongoing improvement, whether it’s upgrading our kennels, enhancing our website, or expanding our services. As we grow, the best part has been meeting new people through diverse connections—many of whom are now repeat customers. From trainers and transporters to vendors and vets, our network is robust, providing outstanding resources to address any questions you might have. Dr. Wylie also brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, making him an invaluable resource for dog owners and enthusiasts.

A Special Pup and a Moment with Travis Tritt
This photo of me with country music legend Travis Tritt has a heartwarming story behind it. While I didn’t sell him a pup, I had the privilege of attending an event where I donated one of my puppies to an auction supporting veterans with traumatic brain injuries and PTSD. It was a proud moment to see one of my pups play a small role in raising funds for such an important cause. Meeting Travis Tritt was a bonus, but the true star of the day was that little puppy making a difference!
